Blue Yonder enhances supply chain planning with AI & real-time data
Blue Yonder has introduced expanded features to its Demand and Supply Planning solution, aiming to improve planning accuracy and operational efficiency for supply chain teams. The enhancements use real-time data, advanced algorithms and agent-based artificial intelligence to help businesses better adapt to market volatility and optimise inventory management.
Unified platform
The Blue Yonder Demand and Supply Planning platform synchronises demand forecasts, supplier commitments, inventory and manufacturing plans. It is underpinned by a cloud-based architecture designed to scale and to support AI-based analysis and collaborative workflows across supply chain partners.
Organisations are able to eliminate data silos and manage their supply chain functions across logistics, warehouse and supplier relationships from a single interface. This integrated structure supports both everyday planning and response to disruptions.
Scenario planning
The solution now supports insight-driven scenario planning that automates the analysis of supply chain exceptions. When a disruption or mismatch arises, the technology can simulate alternative scenarios in real time and suggest optimal changes to plans. Planners are able to consider factors including customer service levels, profit, revenue, market share, and greenhouse gas emissions.
The enhanced 'supply solvers' and engineered algorithms are tailored to address common industry challenges such as excess stock, management of shelf-life, attribute-based product planning, and complex bills of materials. These improvements are targeted at assisting planners to reduce inventory waste and avoid lost sales due to demand-supply imbalances.
AI agent support
A newly introduced Inventory Ops Agent uses agentic AI to move planners from reactive exception handling to data-driven proactive planning. The agent monitors for mismatches between supply and demand, performs root-cause analysis, and recommends specific options such as alternate sources, order expediting, and demand adjustments.
This tool facilitates rapid communication of changes across different teams, with the aim of aligning downstream supply chain activities and supporting operational efficiency.
Collaborative network
The platform's network-enabled planning tools enhance collaboration among partners by giving teams real-time visibility into supply chain events. Planners can dynamically reallocate inventory, reroute shipments, and engage with alternative suppliers as situations demand.
This collaborative approach is intended to increase agility and responsiveness in the face of sudden disruptions including shifts in demand or delays in supply.
Sustainability tracking
Environmental impact is addressed through the integration of the Sustainable Supply Chain Manager, which allows planners to measure the carbon emissions and waste consequences of their planning decisions. The system provides trade-off analysis tools to help users align supply chain execution with sustainability objectives.
Cross-functional orchestration
Demand and Supply Planning integrates logistics and warehouse constraints into the planning process using real-time data updates. This is aimed at enabling cross-functional supply chain teams to coordinate activities efficiently and reduce the need for ad-hoc interventions caused by unanticipated changes in operational requirements.
"Blue Yonder Demand and Supply Planning delivers a unified solution for demand, supply, inventory, and manufacturing planning. By leveraging real-time data, AI and machine learning, the Blue Yonder Platform synchronises supply chain operations, enabling planners to make faster, smarter decisions that boost productivity and improve plan quality," said Charles Brennan, Senior Analyst, Supply Chain, Nucleus Research.
"In today's volatile and rapidly changing market, identifying the right balance of demand, supply and inventory has become increasingly complex for supply chain planners. Our latest Demand and Supply Planning capabilities deliver comprehensive visibility, real-time collaboration and AI-driven insights to help our customers reduce risks, costs and waste while improving customer satisfaction and overall supply chain performance," said Gurdip Singh, Chief Product Officer, Blue Yonder.
