Bylines & Op-eds

We summarise the requirements and suggestions when submitting bylines to TechDay.

Can I send a byline to TechDay?

Bylines need to be arranged with our team before submission. Approach us on hello@techday.com first.

Key points

Bylines are also be known as op-eds, guest columns or thought leadership columns.
They should be arranged with our team before preparing / writing.

How do I submit a byline?

After we have agreed on a byline, ensure you follow our guidelines below.

Key points

Bylines should only ever be sent to shadda@techday.com
They should be sent as a Word document attachment with a headshot of the author/s.

What are the guidelines for the actual writing?

Bylines need to be written in a formal and authoritative tone by a named expert.

Key points

It must be a byline/thought leadership/opinion piece, not a press release
The ideal length of a byline is 800-1000 words.
Do not excessively mention your company name or product names.
A full author name, job title and company are needed. A human name has power over just a company name.
An exclusive article submitted to TechDay will perform better than a non-exclusive column. As a result, we prefer and recommend exclusivity but don't require it.

What are the image specifications for a byline headshot?

Bylines should always be accompanied with a headshot of the author.

Key points

Headshots should be at least 1,200 pixels wide by 677 pixels high.
These are the minimum sizes, larger is fine.
Do not stretch the headshot to fit our size requirements.
Attaching images is preferred over links or online storage tools.
